Who is Poelie Jansen?

30+ Years' Experience

In the multicultural heart of The Hague lies the studio of jewelry designer Poelie Jansen. Poelie studied at the vocational school in Schoonhoven and completed her training in gold- and silversmithing in 1994.

During her training, she did an internship in Indonesia, where she focused on the traditional, hands-on side of the craft and deepened her skills in refining a piece of jewelry - a precision that has remained her signature ever since.

In addition to being self-employed as a jewelry designer since graduating, Poelie works on commission, teaches metalsmithing courses and workshops - and, as a recognized goldsmith, carries an official maker's mark - the legally required hallmark that allows every piece to be traced directly back to her workshop.

Her work can be seen in various galleries, at exhibitions, and in her own studio in the center of The Hague.

Travel and Other Cultures

Poelie loves traveling and other cultures, and that passion is immediately evident in her work. Emotions, thoughts, experiences, memories, wishes, and dreams form the starting point for every series she creates; gemstones, nature, and other cultures are key sources of inspiration.

Whenever she hits the road in her RV, she brings along her homemade workbench so she can work on new collections along the way.

The landscapes, colors, and atmosphere of the places where she stays are an endless source of inspiration - this is how each piece of jewelry emerges from a unique experience, and every collection tells its own story.

The Design Process

Poelie usually starts with a rough sketch. As she begins to develop the sketch at her workbench, the design takes on an even richer formal language than what was originally sketched. She believes that experimenting with this spontaneous formal language is essential to achieving a certain atmosphere in the design. For her, a ring is “…never just round—there’s always something more to it…”.

She achieves the atmosphere she envisions, on the one hand, through her own distinctive design language—characterized by refined details—and, on the other hand, through her choice of materials: gold, red gold, (blackened) silver, and oxidized copper, combined with gemstones and/or pearls.

If you are interested in Poelie's work, please feel free to contact her. A piece of jewelry can be designed and made to your wishes, in consultation with her.
