Learn Jewelry Making in The Hague ಄ Poelie

From the First Introduction to Advanced Techniques

Silversmithing is something you learn step by step. At Poelie's atelier in the center of The Hague, you start with an accessible workshop and grow into courses where you keep learning new techniques and skills. Thanks to over 25 years of experience as a teacher and more than 30 years of experience as a silversmith, Poelie guides both beginners and advanced students. Many participants take multiple courses, building on what they've already learned and developing further at their own pace.

Step 1: A workshop, to get a taste

The most accessible way to get started with jewelry making. Choose from a variety of workshops — from making a set of silver stacking rings to creating your own wedding rings.

Design and create your own piece of jewelry in a single day with personalized guidance from Poelie.

No experience is necessary; it's a fun and accessible way to find out if this field is right for you.

Step 2: The Basic Jewelry Making Course

Would you like to learn more about the craft after attending a workshop? If so, you can choose between a basic course consisting of 6 lessons or an in-depth course consisting of 12 lessons.

In both courses, you'll learn the most important basic techniques of jewelry making step by step, such as sawing, filing, soldering, polishing, and setting gemstones.

During the classes, you'll work on several pieces of jewelry, which allows you to apply the techniques directly in practice and gain more and more confidence in the craft.

Whether you choose the basic course or the more extensive course, you'll build a solid technical foundation that will allow you to continue working independently and bring your own designs to life.

Step 3: Build on Your Experience

What sets Poelie apart: students often don’t stop after just one course. Some participants take the 12-week course several times in a row, continuously building on what they’ve already mastered. Instead of starting from scratch each time, they choose new techniques, designs, and materials to explore in greater depth. This way, their skills grow with each course, at their own pace and at their own level.

Step 4: Specialize

For those who want to delve deeper into the subject, Poelie regularly offers specialized courses in jewelry making.

Each specialization focuses on a specific technique or method, allowing you to further develop and refine your skills.

With personalized guidance, you'll work on new techniques step by step and gain more and more experience.

The selection changes regularly, so there's always something new to discover.

From Workshop to Craft

The benefits this learning path can offer in practice are evident from the experience of Melina, who took a private workshop with Poelie:

“Ik ben nog steeds blij dat ik een privé workshop heb gedaan bij jou en inmiddels al een aantal jaar als edelsmid werk.” — Melina B. uit Den Haag (bron: Facebook)

A great example of how a first encounter can develop into a craft — which is exactly what this learning path is all about.
